Jared Nelson was a wire-to-wire winner at the 58th annual Hornblower Memorial Golf Tournament this weekend.
Nelson took the opening round lead at Plymouth Country Club in Plymouth, Mass., with a round of 6-under 63, then followed that up with a 69 to win the title by four strokes.
The UConn senior from Rutland, Vt., made six birdies in his opening round on Friday, including four straight on holes 12 through 15, and no bogeys as he recorded the lowest round of the tournament.
On Saturday in the second round, Nelson offset two bogeys with three birdies to shoot 68 and comfortably hold off the four players who shared second place: Jack Tobin, Cody Palladino, Weston Jones and Benjamin Smith.
