High school golf is back in Vermont this fall, with champions to be crowned on the boys and girls sides.
In Division 1, Burr and Burton Academy has dominated the scene recently. Both the boys and girls programs won state titles in 2021 and 2022. The girls also triumphed in 2020, so they are seeking a fourth straight title.
It won’t be easy though, as Nick O’Donnell and Kaylie Porter both graduated after being the stalwarts in this mini-dynasty.
Last year's runner-up to Burr and Burton's boys team was Champlain Valley Union. It was a scrappy battle decided by four shots, a slim margin in a team competition.
Champlain Valley Union won the state title in 2018 and 2019. They didn’t compete in 2020. Then they finished runner-up in 2021 and 2022.
South Burlington is the third team in this mix. The school has been safely slotted into the third spot in Vermont’s Division 1 rankings the last two years. They hope to leap above the other two squads this season.
