When Sue Curtin goes all-in on a commitment, there is no looking back. Curtin, ranked one of the top two senior women’s amateur golfers in Massachusetts the past two years (together with Pam Kuong), has always followed – with single-minded resolve and perseverance - her own North Star, a fitting analogy for a woman who is the chairperson of the National Coast Guard Museum Association in New London, Conn.
Curtin was the youngest child in an iconic family and success story. Her father was James David Power III, the man who, along with Sue’s mother Julie, founded a data analytics and consumer intelligence company in 1968 (J.D. Power and Associates), one best known for its customer satisfaction research and benchmarking on new car quality and long-term dependability.
She picked up the golfing bug young. But along the way — a career, a family and a critical illness to her son, Jack — golf took a back seat at times.
Curtin, who turns 52 in May, is ramping up and taking aim at the golf world now. A cursory review of her 2021 tournament accomplishments might yield some insight as to what can be expected in 2022. She had a round of 16 finish in the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur. She qualified for both the U.S. Senior Women’s Open and the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur. … She’s just getting started.
