Evan Harmeling (North Reading, Mass.) played in his first PGA Tour event this month. The 2012 Princeton graduate has played professional golf all over the world and is currently on the Korn Ferry Tour.
With two children at home, traveling to South America for a couple of Korn Ferry Tour events wasn’t high on his priority list, So recently Harmeling decided to stay in Florida and try to Monday qualify for the PGA Tour. He missed out on a spot in Cognizant Classic and felt like he might need a break from golf, but his wife made plans for the following weekend, which meant they stayed in Florida for an extra week.
It must have been kismet because Harmeling teed it up in the Puerto Rico Open Monday qualifier and survived a three-man playoff for the final spot.
At the Puerto Rico Open, birdies on the last two holes on Sunday pushed Harmeling into the top 10 and earned him a spot in the Valspar Championship on March 21. After waiting 12 years to play on the PGA Tour, Harmeling only had to wait two weeks to nab his second appearance.
