With the collegiate golf season upon us, New England golfers opened up with contrasting performances at the Folds of Honor Collegiate in Grand Haven, Mich.
Riding a roller-coaster was Joey Lenane of Dedham, Mass., who posted one of the best second-round scores, a 67, but it was sandwiched between 81 and 80. The sophomore at North Carolina State finished joint 58th while the Wolfpack as a team was T-10 in the 18-team field.
Posting a consistent line of 73-71-73, Cole Anderson finished T-16 to help Florida State get into eighth place. The native of Hamden, Maine, is a redshirt junior for the Seminoles.
While the debut of the season had their attention, players got a nice bonus when one of the game’s great icons, Jack Nicklaus, made an appearance. Nicklaus designed the American Dunes Golf Course, which hosted the tournament.
That and more in Jim McCabe's latest golf notebook.
