Congratulations to a very worthy entrant into the Connecticut Golf Hall of Fame – the esteemed Liz Janangelo. The one-time Duke standout and LPGA member will officially be honored Dec. 7, but there’s little doubt her membership was cemented years ago with a resume that still resonates.
A native of West Hartford, Janangelo in 1997 was just 13; no problem, though, as she won the first of five straight Connecticut State Women’s Amateur Championships. She also won four consecutive years in the Connecticut Women’s Open (2003-06) and managed to spread her dominance to a wider region with eight wins on the AJGA circuit.
At 16, Janangelo qualified for the first of five U.S. Women’s Opens and a highlight to her career was a victorious Curtis Cup appearance alongside Michelle Wie, Paula Creamer, and Brittany Lang.
Now married to former PGA Tour member Jason Caron, a Cape Cod native, they make for a dynamic team at the Mill River Club on Long Island. Jason is the head professional, Liz runs the junior golf and women’s programs, and together they are raising daughters Caroline, 10, and Julia, 7, in an ideal golf landscape.
