Four-time Massachusetts Amateur Public Links champion Bill Drohen posted a tidy 6-under 64 at Presidents GC in North Quincy, Mass., to win the annual Norfolk County Classic.
With rain playing havoc with Saturday’s first round, the decision was made to reduce the championship to 27 holes – nine on Saturday, a full 18 Sunday.
George Zolotas of Tedesco CC in Marblehead, Mass., led Round 1 with a 3-under 31, while Drohen and five others were at 33. Drohen’s closing 64 got him home in 7-under 97, besting John Broderick of Wellesley (35-65) by three. Three players tied for third at 3-under 101 – Daniel Schwartz, Kevin Blaser of Segregansett CC, and Nick Maccario of Great Horse CC.
