The UConn Huskies finished T-8 in the 16-team Palmas Del Mar Collegiate in Puerto Rico. Tommy Dallahan, a senior from Simsbury, Conn., shot 69-69-67 – 205 to finish third, while freshman Alex Heard of Boca Raton, Fla., finished T-21.
Prior to that trip to Puerto Rico, coach Dave Pezzino’s squad had sprinted out of the blocks nicely for the spring schedule with an impressive march to the Big East Match Play Championship.
At Bear Lakes CC in West Palm Beach, Fla., UConn recorded wins over Butler, Creighton, then Seton Hall in the final. The Huskies got three wins each from Jimmy Paradise, a senior from Tampa, Fla., and Heard. Dallahan was 2-0-1 and after his performance in Puerto Rico he was named Big East Player of the Week.
It was UConn’s third straight Big East Match Play Championship.
