Five years ago when he graduated from Florida Southern, John VanDerLaan conceded that there was one hurdle that he’d have to deal with as a pro.
Playing a lot, like three or four weeks in a row. “We didn’t have to do that in college,” he said.
Well, give the Southbury, Conn. native a tip of the hat. He’s clearly mastered the schedule overload. Fact is, he’s not alone because when you’re on the Korn Ferry Tour it behooves you to play. And play. And play.
“I’ve played every one,” laughed VanDerLaan, who has indeed teed it up in all 17 KFT stops this year. “You just free-wheel it. I’m in good shape for my card for next year, I feel like my game’s in good shape, and I’m just outside. So I’m optimistic. No reason not to keep playing.”
By “outside,” VanDerLaan refers to his season-long standing in the points race. He’s currently 37th and the top 25 automatically earn PGA Tour cards for 2024.
