Mid-April for Michael Thorbjornsen got better as it went along.
The Stanford sophomore from Wellesley, Mass., opened the three-round Western Intercollegiate tournament in Santa Cruz, Calif., last week with two rounds in the 80s (10-over par 80 and 83), struggling much the way his team did.
He rebounded the best on the final day, though, firing a 67, his team’s best round of the event by four shots as the Cardinal finished tied for 12th among 14 teams at Pasatiempo Golf Club.
He also received an honor on Tuesday that few collegiate golfers receive.
