When you’re trying to keep it together and bring a New England PGA championship bid to the finish line, seeing the names of Shawn Warren and Jeff Martin up high on the leaderboard gets your attention.
“If anybody up there was going to catch me, those were names (to take note of),” said Liam Friedman, giving praise to two competitors who’ve combined to win seven Wogan Player of the Year Awards in the New England PGA.
And if you discover that you’re tied for the lead with one to play, being on the 18th hole at Eastward Ho! CC in Chatham, Mass., is not the easiest assignment. “Especially knowing I need to make par and I blow (my drive) way right and there are a hundred people watching,” said Friedman.
But as the Director of Instruction at Wollaston Golf Club in Milton, Mass., Friedman has plenty of advice for golfers and in crunch time Thursday at the famed seaside course, he remembered Rule 1 for when you’re in trouble: Get it back in play, give yourself a chance.
