A resplendent Essex County Club welcomed golfers on Tuesday, after a plethora of delays made Monday’s opening round pour over into the second day of the event.
When an event runs for five days in July in New England, weather is likely to play a factor. Fog hampered the start on Monday and then heavy rains and lightning came in the afternoon. Only half the field managed to complete the first 18 holes by Monday night.
On Tuesday, players were treated to a challenging golf course. However, with the winds down and the greens receptive, low scores were available. Four players either tied or broke the course record in the waning light on Tuesday evening.
The course record on Tuesday morning at Essex CC was 65. By sundown, it was 62.
