The first 36 holes of the U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills and Colorado Golf Club are complete. It's a gauntlet of golf that's meant to exhaust every fiber of a golfer's mind and body. Pars are golden as competitors battle long rough, fast greens, heat, and (this year) elevation.
The 312-man field has been trimmed to 64 finalists for the match-play portion of the nation's biggest, and most important, amateur event.
Ten golfers from New England participated in this year's tournament. Two players will continue on to match play — Ben James and Cole Anderson.
One New Englander, Joey Lenane, had a brutally tough break late on Tuesday to miss out on the chance to keep playing.
