The Brunswick Bruins golf team is coming off an incredible 2023 season in the western New England golf scene and is primed to continue to play at a high level this year. However, they'll do it without longtime coach Anthony Fischetti, who stepped down after 19 years to help the program in a new way.
Fischetti credits the success of the golf program to the “Bruin Way.” He describes it as the guiding light for the community, and buying into this competitive and behavioral core generates cohesiveness and a common understanding.
The process of earning a spot on the Brunswick varsity golf squad is a bit of a crucible that Fischetti compares to PGA Tour qualifying school, with various stages and cuts. That tryout occurs in the fall, months before the season begins in late March.
“Once a player earns that status, he immediately understands the ‘specialness’ of what he has achieved,” Fischetti said.
