HAVERHILL, Mass. – With every score that got posted in the sunshine outside the clubhouse Monday afternoon – before impending storms forced everyone indoors – the boys on the Milton Academy golf team recognized they were getting closer to achieving something special.
There are two team trophies handed out in the Independent School League, one for best record during the regular season and one for the best score at the Kingman Tournament, which brought the league’s 14 teams together at Renaissance Golf Club.
Milton had never won a team title in a league that’s been dominated in recent years by Belmont Hill and St. Sebastian’s.
That’s no longer the case. The Mustangs posted a six-stroke win over runner-up Belmont Hill, a title they accepted indoors as the downpours got going.
