Rhode Island has produced plenty of excellent golfers given its size, and its crop of seniors teeing it up this year in the high school golf season is conspicuously strong.
Teams are co-ed in Rhode Island, and then the girls and boys compete individually in the state championship. Last year, La Salle Academy swept all three events, winning the team title while Olivia Williams and Max Jackson were individual champions.
This year, the high school state finals will look a little different. In the past, the girls competition happened on a different day and course than the boys. This spring, both individual and the team titles will be decided at Cranston CC over the course of two days and 36 holes of stroke play. This is a great step for the high school golf scene, as it will bring everyone together to compete.
Let’s meet some of the players who hope to contend for state titles.
