On the opening day of match play at the U.S. Senior Amateur, 71-year-old Paul Simson kept on doing what he’s been doing for years:
Winning first-round matches.
The Raleigh, N.C., resident, a two-time champion of this event in 2010 and ‘12, won his 14th first-round match (in 14 tries) when he defeated Buddy Allen, 2-up in the Round of 64 at The Kittansett Club in Marion, Mass.
Next up for him: a match against hometown favorite Frank Vana.
