It was a Saturday morning in late March and a constant pounding of rain meant hearty winter golfers wouldn’t be involved in the game on this day.
Except for Dave Adamonis Jr. His day was wall-to-wall golf. When you run what is arguably the most unheralded junior golf circuit in the land, the Challenge Cup, there are very few days to take off.
In the morning, there were phone call discussions back-and-forth with the Ridge Club on Cape Cod. The season-opening Challenge Cup Junior Invitational was postponed and re-scheduled for April 27-28.
“These clubs,” said Adamonis, “are so accommodating to us.”
By early afternoon, the phone calls were focused on a new tournament — the Willett Cup at Charles River CC in Newton, Mass.
