HAVERHILL, Mass. — The Division 1 MIAA state finals served as a lesson: Never give up.
The BC High Eagles' season looked dead in the water after six matches. They won none of them.
Now, they're state champions after claiming the title on Tuesday at Renaissance GC with a total team score of 311. Good enough for a five-shot win over three schools: St. John's Shrewsbury, Wellesley, and Xaverian.
As it all started to sink in for the champion Eagles, a rallying cry crept up. "Oh and six," they said to each other, laughing in disbelief at how far they had come while they gawked at the trophy they had just won.
