Nobody had longer days at the 104th Massachusetts Junior Amateur on Thursday than Josiah Hakala and Aidan Emmerich, but their rewards were worth it.
On a blazing hot day, Hakala won a pair of matches at Northern Spy Golf Club in Townsend – his home course – both of which reached the 18th hole.
He’s one of four players remaining in the event, which will wrap up today with the semifinals and championship.
The 15-year-old Hakala held off a late-round challenge from Nick McCabe (Cohasset GC) in the morning and beat defending champ Colin Spencer (Cummaquid GC) later in the day.
