Bobby Leopold has an incredible record in the state of Rhode Island. He’s won four Rhode Island Amateur championships. The fourth came in a tour de force at Montaup in July. He earned medalist honors and then ran roughshod through the match play portion of the championship, which included beating his brother-in-law, Tyler Cooke, in the quarterfinals.
He lost just seven holes in the six matches he played en route to the title.
Leopold’s journey to Rhode Island is long and winding. He was born in New York to English parents who returned his family to England. After spending his childhood in England, he attended Rollins College. That transition led to Leopold hitting rock bottom as a golfer, struggling to break 90.
Now, as one of the most successful mid-amateurs in the country, Leopold balances work and golf. He loves to compete and has had opportunities to play in some of the most exclusive events on the amateur calendar along with multiple USGA events.
