Their days as teammates on the Greenwich (Conn.) High School golf team long in the past, David Pastore and Danny Guise are still connected by the game they love – and their efforts at last week’s second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour qualifying tournament.
Pastore, 30, who graduated high school in 2010 and played collegiately at the University of Virginia, was co-medalist at a site in Valdosta, Ga. He shook off an opening 70 and followed with 65-67-70 for 275 and a breeze into the final stage.
Guise, 27, who in 2010 as a freshman played alongside Pastore, a senior, attended Wake Forest for two years and has been pursuing the pro game for a while now. He was staring at the end of yet another Q School quest when he caught fire and shot 31 on his final nine in Dothan, Ala.
With trips of 70-71-69-66 for 276 and a share of fifth place, it’s the closest Guise has come to securing playing status at this level.
Both Pastore and Guise will be in the field for the final stage of Korn Ferry Tour qualifying Nov. 4-7 in Savannah, Ga.
