Slowly but surely, there are signs that the competitive golf scene is coming out of winter hibernation.
No surprise, but Florida is the hub of golf this time of year and that was where you could find a few local competitors in amateur play this past week.
At the Annika Sorenstam Invitational USA Junior Championship, Molly Smith of Westford, Mass., earned a chance to tee it up against an elite international field. The senior at Westford Academy shot 72-72-75 and finished in a tie for 32nd.
The tournament was a prime chance to see some of the better freshman players on the college scene next year. Smith is committed to the University of Central Florida.
