In his 38 years as superintendent extraordinaire at Salem Country Club in Peabody, Mass., Kip Tyler piled up accolades as arguably the best in his line of work. More impressively, however, is the large community of friends he surrounded himself with, most of those people drawn to Tyler’s humility and loyalty.
Well, that community of friends is rallying around a cause that will be a wonderful tribute to Tyler, who passed away last July 24 at the age of 68 after a battle with brain cancer.
“Chips for Kip” is the name they have given a memorial tournament that will be held June 19 at Ferncroft GC in Middleton, Mass. Proceeds will benefit Glioblastoma Brain Cancer Research.
During Tyler’s brilliant career at Salem CC, the club hosted three major championships – the 1984 U.S. Women’s Open and the U.S. Senior Open in 2001 and 2017.
