Like father, like son.
With just five qualifying spots available at Tuesday’s U.S. Open local qualifier at Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass., Fran and Owen Quinn of Holden, Mass., both made the grade, sharing second place, one stroke behind the medalist.
The Quinns, who both shot 1-over 72, and three other players, advanced to 36-hole U.S. Open final qualifying in early June. The U.S. Open is June 16-19 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.
Former Williams College golfer Sam Goldenring earned medalist honors, shooting 71. Eric Mabee of Pittsfield, Mass., and amateur Ethan Whitney of Westminster, Mass., earned the final two spots after shooting 73s and emerging from a five-players-for-two-spots playoff.
