It’s a big year for golf tournaments in New England.
The United States Golf Association is coming to New England for two events this summer. First, the U.S. Senior Open will take place from June 27-30 at Rhode Island’s Newport CC, one of the five founding clubs of the USGA. In September, the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur will come to Brae Burn CC in Newton, Mass.
It will mark the eighth time the USGA has hosted an event at Brae Burn and the first time since the 1997 U.S. Women’s Amateur. As is tradition, Wannamoisett CC will host the Northeast Amateur for the 61st time. The Elite Amateur Series event is one of the most prestigious events in the world of amateur golf.
The PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship stop in Cromwell, Conn., is one of the PGA Tour’s eight signature events. It falls the week following the U.S. Open. With the U.S. Open happening in Pinehurst, N.C., the field should be strong given the large purse and reasonable travel following the year’s third major championship. Vermont’s Keegan Bradley will defend his title at the Travelers.
