There will be some New England flavor in the NCAA men’s golf championship when play gets underway May 27 at Grayhawk GC in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Michael Thorbjornsen, the reigning Massachusetts State Amateur champion from Wellesley, Mass., will be playing for Stanford; Cole Anderson, a redshirt freshman from Camden, Maine, will play for Florida State; and Oklahoma, which enters the competition as the nation’s top-ranked team, will be counting on former Rhode Islander Patrick Welch, a senior.
Each of these three played nicely in their respective regionals.
Out in Stockton, Calif., Thorbjornsen, a sophomore, shot 71-69-68 (T-5) and help Stanford finish second and easily advance.
