The Division 3 Massachusetts state championship will take place at Sterling National Country Club on Monday.
The field consists of 12 teams. Each qualified for the finals by finishing in the top three in their sectional. Teams will play 18 holes of stroke play. Six players will compete for each team, and the top four will scores will count. Additionally, there is an individual championship up for grabs. There are also players who earned a spot in the state final even though their team did not make it.
It seems that the championship will go through perennial powerhouse Weston and its dynamite senior, Zach Pelzar. St. John Paul II had an outstanding season and might be the main competition for Weston.
Sterling National CC is a quintessential New England golf course. It's tree-lined and rather narrow with rolling land that will force players to hit shots off uneven lies into well-bunkered greens. Keeping the ball in play, and out of the dense woods, will prove a major key for the players on the back end of the roster who are pivotal to a team's success.
Let's meet the 12 teams teeing it up at Sterling National.
