The U.S. Junior Amateur gets underway Monday at Daniel Island Club in Charleston, S.C. The event includes 36 holes of stroke play and then the field is cut to 64 players for the match-play portion of the tournament.
The 264 competitors will play two different courses. Daniel Island Club’s Ralston Creek Course is the main host, for the match play competition and one round of stroke play. It was designed by Rees Jones, and will play to 7,367-yards. The Tom Fazio-designed Beresford Creek Course will serve as the stroke-play co-host and will play to 7,039 yards and a par 71.
Six local players earned spots in the distinguished field. Last year, John Broderick (Wellesley, Mass.) made the deepest run of any New Englander when he lost to eventual champ Wenyi Ding in the Round of 16 at Bandon Dunes in Oregon.
Let's meet the players teeing it up in South Carolina this week.
