It was far away from the competitive golf world that he had once envisioned for himself. Yet, the recent Country Club of New Bedford Four-ball Championship involved every ounce of the golf passion that had consumed Kevin Silva a lifetime ago.
“The gravity and weight of that tournament is special. It’s just an incredible tournament,” said Silva, now 38.
He is a New Bedford kid, a one-time junior standout on the Mass. Golf scene, and a success story who has been part of golf at its highest level. In 2008 and 2009, Silva earned his way into U.S. Opens at Torrey Pines and Bethpage Black, respectively.
Granted, Silva missed the cut both years, and the years he toiled in professional golf at the minitour level never delivered the promise he had for himself after playing collegiately at the University of North Carolina.
