On Sunday, the Williams women's team won the NESCAC championship by an impressive 32 shots at their home course, Taconic GC. The weather was lovely on Saturday in the Berkshires before rain and chilly weather rolled in on Sunday, making for a challenging day.
The Ephs did their damage in the first round, shooting 5-over par as a team to build a 22-shot lead over Hamilton. Junior Gio Kim fired an incredible 69 (-2) to lead the Ephs in the first round. Kim was steady throughout the round, she made three birdies, including back-to-back birdies to finish the round.
With work being done on the sixth and 10th greens, the field started the round on the 17th hole. The par 3 was played from the back tee box as a par 4 to open the round. Then they played the 18th hole from the back tees as the second hole. The usual first hole was the third hole, and the players skipped the sixth and 10th holes.
To highlight the dominance of Williams, the top four scores on Saturday came from their squad. Senior Tianyi Zhuang and first-year Emma Abramson (Sandwich, Mass.) shot 73, and Victoria Kim shot 74. Hamilton's Angela Liu and Middlebury's Morgan Lee each shot 75 to round out the top five on after Saturday's round.
