Arabella Lopez completed her historic week in the Women's Connecticut Amateur at Tashua Knolls Golf Club with the type of golf that doesn't portray her age. The 14-year-old closed out her final round with seven pars and two birdies on the closing nine. That 2-under 34 helped Lopez reach 1-under par for the tournament and a two-shot victory.
As the final group of Lopez, Annie Dai (Longmeadow, Mass), and Mia Grzywinski, (the women's 2021 Player of the Year in Connecticut), played the seventh hole, a two-hour weather delay gave the players plenty to mull over.
When the horn blew, Lopez was three behind Dai. However, Lopez had a 20-foot par putt, while Dai had a tap-in for birdie. Lopez knew, at the very least, she'd be four strokes behind if she could bury her par putt.
Aside from a bit of food and some hanging out with her friends, Lopez used the 2-hour delay to refocus and move past a disappointing seventh hole.
