As the Independent School League (ISL) teams prepare to compete for the Kingman Cup on May 15 at Newport CC, one thing is for sure: Nobles junior Alan Rose III of Weston is on everyone’s short list of players to watch.
Rose has occupied a position on the Nobles varsity golf team since middle school and has compiled a 27-9-1 career record in the ultra-competitive ISL. Last year, playing in the pressure-cooker No. 1 spot as a sophomore, Rose fashioned an impressive 10-3-1 record.
Nobles golf coach Jeremy Kovacs believes he is watching something special. “Alan is laser-focused. His talent extends well beyond his golf swing," Kovacs said. "In the most stressful moments, he is able to take it all in, calm himself to make the right decision and execute the best shot possible. I have not seen a mentally tougher player.”
Voted captain as a sophomore, Rose will undoubtedly achieve the honor of being a three-time captain by the time he graduates from Nobles next spring. “While he is humble, Alan is still a very confident young man,” Kovacs said. “It is that confidence – as well as the positive way he has always treated his teammates and competitors – that allowed him to earn the role of captain as a sophomore even though there were rising seniors on the team.”
