You won’t hear any complaints from the folks who run the annual Terra Cotta Invitational at Naples National in Naples, Fla. That’s because the top two rated juniors according to Junior Golf Scoreboard – Ben James (Milford, Conn.) and Caleb Surratt (Indian Trail, N.C.) – played beautifully and led the way throughout the 54-hole competition. Unfortunately for James, who is No. 1, he finished second in the Terra Cotta to second-ranked Surratt.
Surratt shot 67-67-68 to finish at 202, seven ahead of James, who shot 69-73-67.
Surratt is committed to the University of Tennessee next year, James to the University of Virginia. John Broderick (Wellesley, Mass.) a senior at Belmont Hill, shot 79-70-78 – 227 to finish in a group tied for 47th that included Nick Maccario (78-73-76), the 2020 Mass Golf Player of the Year. Cody Paladino, a standout mid-am out of Connecticut, shot 228 to finish T-52.
In this story, we'll examine how New England amateur golfers of all types fared across the country this weekend, including in the college and junior tournaments.
