When you talk to four people who are deeply invested in college golf, there is almost universal agreement as to what is the biggest challenge for junior golfers in the quest to find a collegiate home.
“Trying to find a realistic fit,” said Dave Adamonis Jr, the tireless engine driving the Challenge Cup. “Everyone always wants to go to the best, but sometimes that’s not possible and it’s a hard lesson.”
“The biggest mistake has never changed. Kids have to realize their ability, they have to be honest,” said Lance Ringler, who has been overseeing the college golf component of Golfweek Magazine since 2000. “They chase that top choice and get left behind.”
Added BU women's coach Bruce Chalas: “Players have to be realistic about their skill level and their academics. It isn’t how good you might be next year. It’s where are you right now?”
