Every year, the Independent School League hands out two team trophies. The Walworth-Sullivan trophy goes to the regular-season champion, after a year of team match play. Seven players from each team play head-to-head, with one point at stake in each match.
Depth is vital, as the No. 7 player on the team is vying for a point just like the No. 1.
The season culminates with the Kingman Cup. It’s an 18-hole, stroke-play event where five players from each team compete and the four best scores count.
Last year, Belmont Hill won both, plus CJ Winchenbaugh shot a 67 to win the individual title at Newport CC.
It might be tough to wrestle the hardware from the Sextants, as they return most of last year’s team. But they will certainly have challengers, while others rebuild with youth, looking a year or two into the future.
