The phrase tends to trip off the tongue swimmingly: “He/she is hoping to play golf in college.”
Really?
It’s an admirable pursuit, and downright intoxicating for a golf-nut parent to dream about. But, listening to parents who have been down this road, it’s not so easy.
We reached out to a group of parents whose kids have moved on to or committed to Division 1 college golf programs — Phil and Lynn Smith of Westford, Mass., parents of Morgan (Georgetown) and Molly (UCF); David and Kim Emmerich of Swampscott, Mass., parents of Max (Salem State), Christian (Holy Cross) and Aidan (Michigan State); and Dan and Kari O’Donnell of Cohasset, Mass., parents of Jack (Michigan) — to discern lessons learned from their time helping their children chart paths to college golf.
