The Connecticut high school golf season is organized differently from its New England counterparts.
Golf was exclusively a spring sport in the state, but a shift to the fall was long considered, as some wanted to follow the summer season — when players are sharper, the weather is nicer and course conditions are better. Unable to come to a consensus, the state allowed teams to switch if they so chose beginning in the fall of 2021, organizing two golf seasons. Roughly a third of the boys squads did, creating a split (and sets of state champions) that still exists today.
All girls teams compete in the spring.
Last spring’s winners of the Division 1 and Division 3 individual titles, Andrew Beauton and Luke Stennett, are back. On the team side, Cheshire hopes to replace its star, AJ Depaolo, and win another Division 1 title. Stennett will lead champions Portland in Division 3.
Here is a look at some of the best players to watch in the state this season.
