The Ouimet Memorial Tournament begins on Wednesday at Oakley CC in Watertown, Mass., and will wrap up, as is tradition, at Woodland GC in nearby Newton.
One of the great things about the Ouimet is that it's three tournaments in one. There is the Ouimet Championship, the Senior Ouimet (Lowery Division), and the Ouimet Women's. Each division features strong competitors who will play 54 holes over the three days.
After 36 holes, there is a cut. It's always special for players to reach the final round at Woodland GC, which was Francis Ouimet's home course. The senior division is named after Ouimet's friend Eddie Lowery, who caddied for Ouimet in his 1913 U.S. Open triumph at The Country Club.
Last year, Ryan Downes became the youngest Ouimet champion. Keith Smith was the Lowery championship, and Harvard's Kate Schernecker won the women's division.
With such a great field, the groupings become a lot of fun to poke through to find storylines and connections among players. Here are some intriguing groups that will play together on Wednesday and Thursday at Oakley before the field is cut down and pairings are made based on score.
