High school golf is returning to Maine this fall, a year after each of the state's three divisions saw some spirited and tight races in the championship.
In Division A, Brunswick rode solid rounds from Austin Stromick (75), Garrett Countway (76), and Charlie Austin (76) to edge out Falmouth and Scarborough by five shots. Countway and Austin are returning this year as seniors, but they have a big void to full as Stromick, the Maine Junior Amateur champion, has graduated.
In Division B, teams with a bit of depth seem to rise to the top of the leaderboard. The standout individual players like Eli Spaulding and Jack Quinn can’t always carry a team. Cape Elizabeth won the team title last year with a score of 56-over par. They beat Yarmouth by seven shots.
Maranacook recorded the largest team win in the state last year. The nine-shot win was punctuated by Wyatt Folsom’s 2-over 74. Folsom will return as a senior this year. He was just one shot away from winning individual and team state titles.
Below is a look at the players to watch across Maine this season.
